Embroidered vs woven patches
Embroidered patches are stitched with thread, so they are raised and textured. Woven patches are woven from thin thread, like a label, so they are flat and hold fine detail and small text. Choose embroidered for a bold logo or crest, and woven for fine lines and small lettering. We make both, from 100 pieces per design.

How they compare
Both start from your artwork and come in your colors. The difference is how the thread goes in.

Pick by your logo and where it goes
- Choose embroidered for a bold logo, a crest or a badge you want people to see and feel, on varsity jackets, hoodies and caps.
- Choose woven for a logo with fine lines or small text, or when the patch must stay thin and flexible.
- Choose chenille for the soft, raised varsity look on letters and crests.
- Choose rubber for bags and outerwear, where the patch must stand up to water and wear.
- Not sure? Send us your logo. We will suggest a type, and you see it on your sample before bulk.

Questions buyers ask
What is the difference between embroidered and woven patches?
Embroidered patches are stitched with thread onto a fabric base, so they are raised and textured. Woven patches are woven from thin thread on a loom, like a label, so they are flat and hold finer detail.
Which patch is best for small text?
Woven. Its thin threads hold fine lines and small letters that are hard to stitch clearly in embroidery.
Are woven patches cheaper than embroidered patches?
It depends on the size, the number of colors and how many you order. Send us your artwork and we will quote both.
What is a chenille patch?
A patch made of soft, looped yarn that stands up off the fabric. It is the classic look for varsity letters and crests.
When should I choose a rubber patch?
When the patch must stand up to water and wear, like on bags and outerwear. Rubber patches are molded, so the logo has raised detail, and the color stays bright.
What is the minimum order for custom patches?
100 pieces per design when you order patches on their own. We can also sew them onto hoodies, jackets, hats and bags that we make for you.
How do the patches attach?
Tell us how you plan to attach them, and we will confirm the backing on your sample before bulk.
Can I see my patch before the full order?
Yes. We make one physical sample first, for $150 to $500 depending on the design, plus shipping. You check the colors, the size and the detail of your patch before we make the full order.
