PVC patch orders, in short

Sharknits makes custom PVC patches, also called rubber patches, from the buyer's logo: molded in the buyer's colors, with flat (2D) or sculpted (3D) detail, and a sew-on border or a hook-and-loop back. Patches ship on their own, from 100 pieces per design, or sewn onto hats, bags and jackets Sharknits makes. First we make one physical sample, for $150 to $500 depending on the design, plus shipping. Plan about 4 months ahead if you need several sample rounds. You pay in full when the order is ready to ship.

Step by step

How PVC patches are made

Embroidered, woven and chenille patches
  1. Draw the patch. Your logo is drawn as a patch, with each color as its own area.
  2. Make the mold. A metal mold is cut with a pocket for each color.
  3. Fill the colors. Liquid PVC is filled into the mold one color at a time, and each layer is set with heat before the next.
  4. Set the patch. The filled mold is heated until the PVC turns solid but stays flexible.
  5. Trim and back it. The patch comes out of the mold, the edges are trimmed, and a backing is added if you want one.
  6. Check every patch. Each one is checked against your approved sample, then packed.

Questions

Questions buyers ask

What is a PVC patch?

A patch molded from PVC (polyvinyl chloride), a soft, flexible plastic often called rubber. Each color is its own layer, so the logo can stand up from the base.

What is the minimum order for PVC patches?

100 pieces per design. Tell us how many designs you need and we will confirm.

PVC or embroidered patches: which should I choose?

A PVC patch gives a raised, molded look with sharp edges and solid colors. An embroidered patch gives a stitched, textured look. PVC patches suit hats, bags and outerwear.

What is the difference between 2D and 3D PVC patches?

A 2D patch has flat layers at different heights. A 3D patch has rounded, sculpted detail, like a carving. Tell us the look you want, and you see it on your sample.

How do PVC patches attach?

Most are sewn on through a flat border. A hook-and-loop back lets you press a patch on and swap it. We confirm the backing on your sample before bulk.

Can you sew the patches onto our products?

Yes. We sew patches onto hats, bags and jackets we make for you, or ship them on their own.

How are PVC patches made?

Liquid PVC is filled into a metal mold one color at a time and set with heat. Then each patch is trimmed, backed and checked.

How much does a sample cost?

One physical sample costs $150 to $500, depending on the design, plus shipping. You check the colors, the size and the detail before we make your full order.
